Getting Ready for School
As the first day of school draws near, The Shield Institute has been seeking aid from our communities to ensure that our students have what they need to begin the year. Many of our students come from economically diverse backgrounds and their families struggle to provide them with backpacks and supplies. In keeping with our mission at The Shield, we are dedicated to providing for those we serve both through our services and through our ability to advocate for the needs of our individuals. It is with immense gratitude for our donors, Elected Officials, and Board Members, that this year we are able to provide 650 backpacks to our community. This September, we will be celebrating alongside Council Members Peter Koo, Fernando Cabrera, Assembly Member Victor Pichardo and Senator Toby Stavisky as we present these gifts to the children at The Shield Institute.

Although our need for backpacks this year has been met, our mission to continue to dream and provide opportunities to our individuals does not end with this campaign. This is the first of a series of events that we are putting together for the year. In keeping with tradition, The Shield has provided Thanksgiving meals, school trips, events, and other seasonal needs to our children. This year as we seek to go above and beyond, we would like to expand the ways in which we can provide for those enrolled at The Shield. As an example, the holidays are often a time of stress for low-income families, as they struggle to provide holiday meals, warm clothing, and gifts for their children. As we move to support our community, we are planning a toy drive, coat drive, and trip to see a Broadway show for the holidays. None of this would be possible without the support of our staff, Board Members, Elected Officials – and of course, our donors.
Please consider a donation of $100 or more to contribute to supplies, school trips, and resources for our children.
